‘I am concerned for the safety of my family’ – Drake on recent police killings in United States

Canadian rapper Drake has voiced his concerns about the recent spate of black people’s murders at the hands of police in the United States.

Drake, who has adopted the country as his second home, shared a statement in reaction to the recent murder of Alton Sterling, a reported CD seller from Baton Rouge who was tragically killed by two police officers.

‘I am grateful to be able to call America my second home,’ a usually silent Drizzy on socially controversial issues said in a message shared on his Instagram page.

‘Last night, when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me feeling disheartened, emotional and truly scared. I woke up with a strong need to say something.’

‘It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues.’

Further speaking on his concerns for the safety of his loved ones, the rapper thinks a lasting solution to the menace can be reached if there is an embrace of an open and honest dialogue.

‘This is real and i am concerned. Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But i believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step,’ his message continued to read.

‘My thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and any family that has lost someone to this cycle of violence.

‘Be safe out there. More life.’

Nigerians lash out at rapper, Wale for his reaction to Wizkid’s international breakthrough

American rapper Wale might have gotten himself into a little trouble with Nigerians over a comment he made about Wizkid.

Yesterday, popular lyrics website, Genius tweeted that Wizkid has become the first Nigerian artiste to make the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Wale had a slightly questionable reaction to that report: he replied with a thinking face emoji.

Although to many Nigerian who follow the MMG rapper on Twitter, he shouldn’t fully identify as ‘a Nigerian artiste’.

‘Don’t claim being Nigerian now because Wizkid popping now and you aren’t Lmao’ one Tweeter user said, another added, ‘Show us your naija passport first’.

Although Wale has proven on countless occasions that he’s proud of his heritage, to further prove this – he even attended popular OAP, Toolz’ wedding during his visit to Lagos.

‘Why I don’t do collaborations with other artistes’ – Kiss Daniel explains

Nigerian pop sensation, Kiss Daniel who broke out with his 2014 smash hit single, ‘Woju’is not quite big on collaborations and featuing on other artistes’ songs.

Apart from the remix of Woju that featured Davido and Tiwa Savage, he’s only featured on songs with his fellow label mates Dj Shabsy and SugarBoy.

Explaining the reason for this in a recent interview with NotjustOk, Kiss Daniel says, ‘I’m signed to a record label and the management for now only allows me to collaborate with in-house artistes Dj Shabsy and Sugarboy. Maybe later I’ll do songs with other artistes but for now it’s out of it’.

When asked if the ‘no collaboration’ rule has affected his relationship with other artistes, he said, ‘its not really affected my relationship with other artistes, because some do actually understand and others don’t. People have definitely approached me for collabos and I explain to them, the few that get it, they go out and say good things about me, for the others that don’t, I’m still hoping that they get it some day. Trust me I really want to do collaborations, I want to jump on a song with Reekado Banks, Falz because I think they are awesome, I want to do alot of stuffs’.

Today July 4, 2016, Nigerian music producer, Babatunde Okungbowa aka OJB Jezreelwould have clocked 50.

Sadly he died on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 and his final burial rites will now commence today starting with a candle light procession at his residence in Surulere, Lagos.

Today is Dbanj' Father's birthday and the 25 guests who were invited and attended thought they were going for a birthday party but were shocked when it turned out to be the Registry wedding between Dbanj and a yet to be named Lady......

The New Mrs Dbanj' dad is an American and her mum is half Nigerian,half South African....Registry was at a secret venue and a small reception was at Dbanj' house.

By our projections at YCM, come February 12, 2017 at the 59th annual Grammy Awards, Nigerian pop star, Wizkid will become the first Nigerian singer to win a Grammy Award.

Yea you read that right!

Wizkid’s first Grammy will not be for his own song, but for a song he contributed immensely to.

The song, ‘One Dance’ by Drake featuring Kyla and Wizkid in our books and by our calculations has an 86% chance of winning a Grammy award.

To start with, the song was released in April 2016, which means it clearly falls into the Grammy eligibility period which has been announced as October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016.

Now let’s talk about the huge feats the song has recorded so far

According to Billboard, the single racked up 4.67 million streams in one week and pulled about 3,000 combined chart sales.

The song set a new record, becoming the longest-running No. 1 single in U.K.’s digital era, as at now, the song has spent 11 straight weeks on the top of the Billboard chart.

As of June 16, 2016, ‘One Dance’ has sold 1,280,141 copies in the United States.

Away from this, the year 2016 has also been remarkable for Wizkid, amongst other accomplishments, he has sold out stadiums all over Africa and Europe during his world tour, he’s been on tour with Chris Brown, featured on several international magazines including Vogue, he’s wrapping up the release of a new album, he signed three of Ghana’s biggest acts to his international label, won the African Artiste of the Year Award at the 17th Ghana Music Awards.
