Ghanians pay tribute to chinua achebe

Achebe was described by contributors on radio and television stations in Ghana as a writer who brought Africa to the world’s attention.
Chinua Achebe was reported dead in the United States after a long illness with a section of Ghanaians receiving the news with shock and dismay. He was 82.
They said they have not heard from the prolific novelist for a long time because his compatriot, Wole Soyinka, had been visiting Ghana and served as guest speaker on several public lectures.
Ms Doris Saah a procurement officer described the late Achebe as a hero who contributed immensely to the development of the English language in Africa through his novels.
“He played a role as a great son of Africa may God gives a place in His bosom”, she added.
A former student of Central University in Accra, Ms Abigail Nana Owusu said she would always remember the Nigerian writer for his choice of word and proverbs in “Things Fall Apart” that greatly influenced her use of English.
“Death is inevitable but I will always remember Chinua Achebe as one of the African greats who helped instill discipline into Africans to read African Writers’ books”, Andrew Kwesi Kumah, himself a prolific speech writer pointed out.
